Looking after your teeth and gums for life in Burton and Ashby

Whilst it is commonly perceived that dentists are there simply to repair any damage to a patient’s teeth, there is an equally significant role that they play and one that our dentists and other members of staff at our dental practice serving Burton and Ashby are proud of. That role is to actually prevent dental problems in the first place where this is possible. Of course, there will always be occasions where damage is not preventable such as the result of accidents etc but a great deal of dental problems can be avoided with just a little knowledge and care.

There are two key factors which contribute to problems with the teeth and they are decay and gum disease. Addressing these issues will help to avoid a great many fillings and extractions that would otherwise have to take place.

By far the most obvious way to avoid these problems is regular and correct cleaning of the teeth and gums. We can advise you of the best methods to do this and also how to floss which is very important too but something that many people struggle with. In addition to this, diet is also important as too much sugary food will encourage the bacteria which sticks to our teeth and gums causing much of the decay and gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. Sweets such as toffees etc are amongst the worst culprits as they can be very difficult to remove from the teeth due to their stickiness and can cause a great deal of damage if not removed correctly.

We also have at our practice, a team of hygienists who can carry out the sealing of fissures which prevents the decay from spreading deeper into the tooth; on occasions a small filling may also be needed as a preventative measure.

Of course, good habits are created early on in life which is why we place a great deal of importance on educating children in good oral health practices; once this has become established in a child’s mind, it is likely to remain with him, or her, for the rest of their lives giving them a good chance of growing up with strong healthy teeth.

We are also on hand for those times though when preventative measures are simply not enough or perhaps you have started them later in life. At our practice we also offer an extensive range of dental treatments from a simple filling right through to the placement of dental implants. These additional procedures ensure that your teeth will be something in which you can have pride and confidence for a very long time to come.
