There has recently been some alarming news reported recently involving the care some dentists provide.

A recent survey suggested that some dental practices were failing to offer their patients essential checks and treatments.

Research found that some of the surgeries involved were failing to carry out adequate checks during the examination process and were not providing patient’s with appropriate treatment plans.

The study also showed that some practices failed to take x-rays on new patient’s teeth, rushed appointments and failed   to check the soft tissues inside the mouth, which are necessary to screen for oral cancer.

Here at Alexandra Dental Care we believe that your examination appointments are vitally important and much care and attention goes into them.

We routinely carry out an 11 point examination. You may not always understand the dental terms that are used in discussions between your dentist and his nurse but they are relaying important information regarding the 11 point check.

The checks are;

1. Update your medical history.
2. Check the health of your soft tissues.
3. Check the health of your teeth.
4. Check the health of any restorations.
5. Measure the health of your gums.
6. Check plaque levels and oral hygiene.
7. Check the health of your TMJ joints.
8. Issue treatment plans and quotations.
9. Give dental health advice when necessary.
10. Check to see that you are happy with the appearance of your teeth.
11. Take x-rays if necessary.
