Cosmetic Dental Procedures Can Be Life Changing

You may have heard it argued that cosmetic dental procedures are purely about vanity and little else. The fact is though, that the way we appear to others can have a massive impact on our lives, not only in the more obvious areas such as relationships, but also in our career too.

If we are honest with ourselves, until we get to know someone, we nearly all judge a person by their appearance and/or the way that they dress. As we talk to them though, other factors come into play such as their sense of humour and sincerity too.

Sometimes, we may not have a choice about who we meet but in many situations, such as at a party or other social or business networking occasion, we do. Some studies suggest that in situations like these, we subconsciously look for pointers as to who is worth talking to and apparently one of the things that we look for is a person’s smile. This is often one of the first indicators as to how approachable a person may be.

Of course, the quality of a smile depends heavily on the condition of a person’s teeth. Imagine a smile that reveals missing or badly crooked teeth, probably with a touch of bad breath .. not very appealing is it?

The fact is that there is now much that can be done to greatly improve the condition and appearance of a person’s teeth and whilst prevention is certainly better than cure, once the damage has been done, the only option is to cure.

Missing Teeth

Once a tooth has been lost, the only way to hide the fact is to replace it. There are essentially three options here; dentures, a bridge, or dental implants. Dentures, whilst being the best well known, can be uncomfortable and move around in the mouth at times. For bridges to be fitted, very often otherwise healthy teeth either side need to be prepared. A dental implant however, is an excellent, strong and long lasting tooth replacement option that is rapidly gaining in popularity.

Crooked Teeth

If a person’s teeth are crooked, braces are the only option available. Whilst braces have had a bad reputation for some people, the new style adult braces like the ‘6 month smile’ or ‘inman aligners’ provide a much more comfortable and discreet method of straightening teeth.

Whiter Teeth

As well as having a full set of even teeth, there is nothing to beat a great white smile, and at Alexandra Dental Care, we provide a tooth whitening procedure which can improve the whiteness of your teeth dramatically in the space of just one hour.

So, whilst some may argue that cosmetic dentistry is about vanity, there is little doubt that improving the appearance of your teeth will give you a great smile that will attract others to you and perhaps even open doors that you never thought previously possible?
