Virtual Dental Consultations

You may not be able to visit us at the moment, but we can still help you with your teeth!

Things have started to slowly move, with the first tentative steps towards easing lockdown already being taken. Dental practices may not be in the first batch of easing and may well not be in the next either, but we hope to be able to provide Alexandra Dental Care patients some news on when we can open again in the not too far off future.

In the meantime, we are still here to help our Burton, Swadlincote and Ashby patients. In addition to offering advice when urgent dental care is required, we are now offering ‘virtual consultations’. These are additional to our one to one video ‘chats’ and are aimed at helping patients who are not entirely happy with their teeth and are interested to see what can be done to improve them.

In normal circumstances, the first step would be to visit us and have a discussion with one of our team who would then be able to explain the treatments available to help you with a particular problem. As this is not possible at the moment, there is now a quick and easy way to take the first steps towards having a nicer set of teeth.

Online consultations

Although some patients come to us with a fairly strong idea of what treatment they require, especially for cosmetic improvements, this isn’t always the case. Some patients may have problems with their teeth that they think they will just have to live with. Our virtual consultations allow these people especially, to take the first steps to improving the appearance of their teeth.

To do this, all you need to do is to go to our dedicated page where you can send us photographs of the issues that you are concerned about. Before you rush to do this though, please do watch the video first so that the quality of the photographs are as good as possible. This will help us to determine the likely treatments that will be needed. In addition to the instructions in the video, if you have an easy to access individual tooth that you are concerned about; for example one that is heavily discoloured, please also try to take a close up of that tooth as well.

Once you have done this, simply use the form to send us the photographs and the SmileMate system will apply artificial intelligence (AI) to create a preliminary report. We will review the report and your images and reply to you with possible treatment options. It is important to note that these should be used as guidance only and a proper physical assessment will be necessary when we are able to do so before any treatment commences.

What can we detect from photographs?

Some issues may be quite tricky to detect, such as small cavities in the teeth etc. Others such as crooked teeth may be more easy to see from the photographs. In this latter case, although we will need to physically examine them at some point, we may be able to advise whether you need orthodontics for the full set of teeth or just the ‘social six’ front ones, for example.

Although we won’t be able to start treatment at this stage, this early assessment will be able to give you time to consider your options and review things like our payment plans as well. It will also give the opportunity for any questions to be asked.

Alexandra Dental Care are committed to helping our patients as much as we can at this difficult time and you can contact us by ‘phone for advice on 01283 216347.
