Veneers

Dental Veneers from Alexandra Dental Practice near Burton & Ashby

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin custom made covers that can be bonded to teeth to improve their appearance.

They are crafted from high tech tooth coloured material to portray a natural bright smile.

They are an alternative to crowns with numerous uses;

  • Mask dark teeth.
  • Cover discoloured unsightly teeth.
  • Repair chipped, worn or fractured teeth.
  • Reshape crooked teeth.
  • Close gaps between teeth.
  • Transform a smile with smile makeovers.

Well made veneers look natural and are difficult to detect and often used to create that ‘Hollywood smile’

How long do they last?

Veneers are intended to last a long time. Porcelain veneers will not darken though some composite veneers may discolour.

They are strong enough for normal eating but patients are warned not to bite on anything that may chip the veneers e.g. biting off nylon clothes tags, chewing bones or opening nut shells.

What’s involved?

The tooth is reshaped to allow for the thickness of the veneer.

A mould is taken and a laboratory master technician custom makes the veneer to fit the tooth.

A temporary veneer is placed in the mean time.

At the fitting stage the temporary is removed and the new veneer is bonded to the tooth to create a natural looking result.
