More implant information

Dental implants are often the best solution for replacing missing teeth. They provide a strong foundation that allows people to chew comfortably, and smile and talk confidently.

A dental implant is usually a titanium post which is fixed into the jawbone to support artificial teeth to replace a missing tooth or teeth.
Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, some teeth or all the missing teeth in a jaw. If there is not enough bone to fix an implant to occasionally a bone graft may be required. A detailed assessment and examination by your dentist including all x-rays will enable us to assess your suitability for implant treatment. Both Yogi Savania and George Savva have undertaken extensive training in implant dental care and would be happy to discuss your requirements.

Implants are usually placed under local anaesthesia. The area where the implants are placed is closed with stitches. There may be some tenderness, bruising, and discomfort for a week or so.

Implants usually need an 8-12 week healing phase to bind into the jaws, however ‘same day’ teeth are possible and temporary teeth can be made during the healing phase.

In the majority of cases the treatment will take 6-12 months to complete, from initial assessment to having implanted teeth. The actual time phase can be affected by other factors such as smoking, alcohol intake, and general health e.g. Heart conditions, diabetes, etc.

At Alexandra Dental Care we use two systems: Nobelbiocare and Straumann These systems are brand leaders and have excellent results backed up by extensive research which show that implants have a 99.8% success rate and can last in excess of 20 years.

The costs can be individually assessed and discussed with you as no two cases are the same. A detailed report will be given to you with all options to replace your tooth gaps and any queries clarified before any treatment commences.
